WIP Cemetery Summit Buildings--Wild West Project 3

A couple of WIP of some wild west buildings I'm working on for my wild west town of Cemetery Summit.
Here is an interior shot with lil' Rooster Cogburn for scale. My sister picked out the wallpaper, and I picked out a Victorian era painting for the interior and a Victorian era advertisement for soap on the outside.
Here is a shot with it put together with the boardwalk, the brick façade, and the little shed towards the side. Over spring break, I decided I wanted the building to be a billiards, as I went on a great family vacation where we shot a lot of pool together.

Penny for your thoughts, pilgrim?

The Earps--Wild West Project part 2

"I'm coming and hell's coming with me!"
-Wyatt Earp, 'Tombstone'

Knuckleduster's Gunfighter's ball range produces a lovely batch of Tombstone-style Earps. You've seen Wyatt before--though rebased now--but here they all are together, plus a custom display base!

This is the first time in a long time that I have tried something like this, and I'm reasonably pleased with the result. It's not perfect, but the people I've shown it to so far seem to like it, and I'm pleased with it for a first try.

Wyatt and Doc--I feel--look particularly good, whereas Virgil takes the 'L' for this batch--I may fix him up or repaint him to get him up to the standard of the other gunfighters.

Overall, not a bad first attempt at something like this. Penny for your thoughts, pilgrim?

Black Scorpion Cowboy--Wild West Project part 1

Greetings all,
Ramping up work on terrain and figures for my wild west project, to be utilized in conjunction with Knuckleduster's 'Gunfighter's Ball' game system, and the first product of my efforts is this little fellow, whom my wife has affectionately named 'Jasper Jones.'

The figure is a Black Scorpion miniature from their 'Tombstone' range, from one of their 'Lawmen' packs, although I do not necessarily view this character as a lawman. I selected a monochromatic color scheme, which I am reasonably pleased with, from a tabletop view at least.

Recently, I upgraded to the latest iPhone, and the camera is every bit as stunning as advertised, but unfortunately shows every unflattering imperfection in my paintjob. I'm still reasonably pleased with this figure, but  it does give me the desire to do better next time.

Jones will be the first of many residents to my western town of 'Cemetery Summit' as I work on this project. Penny for your thoughts, Pilgrim?

Ham Solo and Chewbacca—25mm

”I’m Han Solo, I’m captain of the Millenium Falcon.”
-Han Solo

Before Disney, before the prequels, before anything else, there was the Original Trilogy, and with that  came these beautiful Miniatures from West End Games and Grenadier Miniatures. These were designed to be played with the Star Wars RPG and Miniatures Battles Game, the latter of which I’d love to learn to play. These are from a world I never knew: a world where there were three Star Wars movies and that was all the world needed.

Chewy is my favorite Star Wars character, and he tends to go nowhere without his copilot, so it seemed only natural to me to do the two together. They were reasonable challenging, and I’m still not sold on Han’s skin tone. All that said, I’ve never painted a 25mm mini ever before, so I’m reasonably pleased with how they turned out.

Wyatt Earp—Gunfighter’s Ball 32mm

I don’t currently play Gunfighter’s Ball, but these Miniatures make me want to. Knuckleduster Miniatures have cooked up a variety of beautiful western Miniatures from history to fiction, and straddling that fine line is Mr. Wyatt Earp.

Earp is a lawman of legend, maybe more than anyone realizes, and it’s hard to say what’s true about the literal man and what’s true about his legend. With my figure, I felt free to go either way and ended up straddling the line with a ‘Tombstone’ type look, without using any kind of reference art from the film.

A rather put together man of Arizonan law, if I do say so myself. Now to decide if I want to try to sell these models or crack out the free sample of gball on Knuckleduster’s website... but I’ve got three more lawmen to paint up before I make that decision!

Batman (DCEU)—DC Miniatures Game

“I’m real when it’s useful.”
-Batman, Justice Leauge Trailer

A first foray into Knight Models’ DC Miniatures game, I present to you the Dark Knight as represented by Affleck in the most recent DCEU films.

If you’ve seen my superheroes on this site in the past, you know I favor bright and bold color schemes. Knowing the look of Batflecks costume on screen, however, I knew that wouldn’t be an option for this project. The result was a lot of heavy washes and toning the metallic gold I usually use on belt buckles down to a muddy brown with flat grey, an effect I’m quite fond of.

The base is meant to represent the wonders of the Batcave, made primarily out of pink insulation foam and then gone over with salt for the ballast and green stuff for the stalagmites. Again, a wash-heavy piece that I’m quite fond of.

Aquaman--28mm Foot and Mounted

"I don't talk to fish."
-Aquaman, New 52

With the WIP out of the way, allow me to show you the finished product of his majesty, the Aquaman!

The only major difference between my WIP version of the exiled Aquaman is some paint on the figure, the ballast, the hot glue/water, and the tentacles lifting up the road.

The only other thing was my attempt at a foam effect where the tentacles and the road are bursting out of the water. I use some cotton ball shreds for this effect, and it's honestly waaaay more effective than I had originally anticipated, and I used it for the mounted Aquaman as well.

I painted up mounted king Aquaman and slapped some 'Flying Graysons' posters on the wall for good measure. Not quite so excited with this figure as I was with the exiled/foot Aquaman, but the reception towards this one has been much more positive, and who am I to argue with my gaming group XD

You can see the foam effect adopted towards the rear of the stingray.

The Army Card we use for our games is right here:

And there we have it! Son of the land, king of the seas! What are your thoughts on these conversions?
